GOT prequel “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” pre-production is moving quickly. Our trusted source says acclaimed director Owen Harris will direct an early episode, joining Harry Bradbeer on the team.
Filming for “The Hedge Knight” is set to commence by the end of May. The team will travel to Northern Ireland where the initial episodes will be shot. Owen Harris’s addition to the directorial team is sure to heighten the anticipation among fans. Harris, a recipient of prestigious awards including two Emmy Awards and two BAFTA Awards, brings considerable talent and expertise to the project.
According to our source, HBO initially considered former Game of Thrones directors David Nutter or Alan Taylor for their upcoming project. However, they ultimately selected Owen Harris.
Although Owen Harris has directed several short films, he gained significant recognition for his work on Black Mirror. Harris notably directed three episodes of the series: “San Junipero,” “Be Right Back,” and “Striking Vipers.” “San Junipero” remains particularly cherished among fans of the Black Mirror series. Additionally, Harris served as the director for the Mrs. Davis series. Taking on the role of director for The Hedge Knight represents a significant responsibility for Harris.
The forthcoming prequel will predominantly centre on Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon V Targaryen, set a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Filming for the series is scheduled to commence in June 2024 and is anticipated to wrap up by the end of the same year.
Following this, post-production work will commence, with the series expected to premiere by mid-2025. While some fans speculate about potential delays until 2026, our source assures us that HBO is determined to complete this spinoff by late 2024 or early 2025.
HBO describes the premise of the series as follows: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros—a young, naive yet courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an era when the Targaryen dynasty still reigns and memories of dragons remain fresh, these extraordinary friends encounter great destinies, formidable adversaries, and perilous adventures.”
